The Sophia College for Women established in 1941 under the affiliation of University of Mumbai is run by the Governing Body of the Society for the Higher Education of Women in India. The college offers a variety of bachelor’s and master’s degree courses across different specializations of the field. The Sophia College for Women is much recognizable for its bachelor degree courses such as B.Sc (IT), B.Sc, BA, and BMM. Admission to all the UG Programmes of Sophia College for Women is done on the basis of merit lists prepared by the college itself based on the previous academic score of the students. Apart from the degree courses, the college also offers various certification and add-on courses among different fields and specializations to be pursued along with the UG programmes for the students.

• Sophia College for Women has been ranked 13 for Mass Communication, 20 for Arts and 31 for Science by Indiatoday 2022.
• The college conducts a 1 year full time integrated PG Diploma course in social communications media known as the Social Communication Media Department (SCM). The course specializes in film production, photography, journalism, corporate communication and advertising. Few of the famous alumni are Deepa Bhatia, Richa Chadha, Anubha Bhonsle.
• The college offers an EXSP programme for all the B.Sc and B.Sc (IT) students  and EXAP for the 1st year BA students of the college. Various events and subjects are included in the EXSP programme which would lead to scientific attitude and skills development. The EXAP programme is a group work done by the students which involves report/ abstract/ paper writings and presentation makings.  Through these programmes students get motivated, creative and acquire an independent thought as well as develop analytical, critical and organizational skills.
• Sophia College provides free counselling services to all its students through the J.N Heredia Centre for Counselling. Students can opt for personal therapy sessions with a prior appointment or can just visit the counselor in case of an emergency.
• The Library of Sophia College offers an Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for all the users who are accessing through a computer. It provides subject indexing related to articles from magazines, journals, and newspapers holding the library subscription so that they can be accessed by the users.
• Sophia College’s inter college festival Kaleidoscope is one of the biggest cultural festivals organized in Mumbai. The inter college festival is managed by a workforce of 20 teams, each assigned a different role. However, due to the ongoing Covid pandemic the Kaleidoscope is organized on the digital platform to maintain the social distancing norms.
