National Institute of Technology, Silchar is one of the top-ranked Engineering institutes in India. The institute has been ranked 40th in the Engineering category and 83rd in the Overall category by the NIRF 2023. Additionally, it has been ranked 22nd in the Engineering (Government) category and 32nd in the Engineering category by India Today 2023. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar was started as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1967. The College started its academic programme with affiliation from Guwahati university. In 2002, it was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute of National Importance. NIT Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering, Science, and Humanities among others. Earlier, the highest package offered during NIT Silchar EIE (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering) placements 2022 stood at INR 44 LPA and the placement rate recorded was 92.45%.
