National Institute of Technology, Silchar is one of the top-ranked Engineering institutes in India. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar was started as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1967. The College started its academic programme with affiliation from Guwahati university. In 2002, it was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute of National Importance. NIT Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering, Science, and Humanities among others. According to the Engineering NIRF report 2024 released by NIT Silchar, the median package offered during BTech and MTech placements 2023 stood at INR 13.95 LPA and INR 6 LPA, respectively. A total of 123 students were placed out of 140 eligible students during BTech Mechanical placements 2023. Further, the placement rate recorded during MTech ME (CAD-CAM & Automation) placements in 2023 was 100%. Further, a total of 52 companies visited the campus and the highest package offered during MTech ME placements 2023 stood at INR 11.7 LPA. Earlier, the highest package offered during NIT Silchar EIE (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering) placements 2022 stood at INR 44 LPA and the placement rate recorded was 92.45%.
Further, a total of 694 students were placed out of 823 students during NIT Silchar BTech placements 2023. Earlier, the highest and average package offered during NIT Silchar placements 2022 stood at INR 44 LPA and INR 13.58 LPA, respectively.
